First off, what is gout?
Gout is caused by a build-up of a substance called uric acid in the blood. Your body naturally produces uric acid and normally keeps it under control. However, if your kidneys cannot eliminate the excess uric acid, it can build up and cause tiny sharp crystals to form in and around joints,
In the most common profiles of gout, sudden and severe attacks of swelling occur. This causes both redness and tenderness in joints, the most commonly experienced is in the big toe. It can be so sudden it wakes you up in the middle of the night. If in your feet, it can feel like walking on glass.
So we want to obviously eliminate the pain from the swelling. We want to eliminate the crystals causing the pain. And we want to prevent future attacks. Well that’s a no brainer!!
Research shows that huge amounts of Vitamin C, cherries, sour black cherry juice and even dairy like skimmed milk and low fat yogurt can reduce the amount of uric acid in the body. So that is a real good start.
What are the foods high in Vitamin C?
- Red bell peppers are the best of the bell peppers which are all good for vitamin C
- Citrus (kiwi, lemon, grapefruit)
- Strawberries
- Tomatoes
- Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower)
- White potatoes – especially if home grown
A well known drink to take is sour black cherry juice.
A really good Vitamin C supplement comes from Dr Newton’s Super C 22 – and no I don’t get any commission – but i sure like his products and you can get it online.
We always seem to mention the transfer molecules and we have a product for the kidneys too. Helps to eliminate inflammation and infection in the kidneys; strengthens the kidneys; and provide the transfer molecules – so you can email me at ho***@ch**************.ca if you want the product. We use the product for all kinds of kidney issues. It is awesome.
Here’s to eliminating your gout!!!
